The Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy swears it’s kind of a big deal, having created a “best practices guideline” and leading various charges, etc., since forming 10 years ago. OK, whatever. Doesn’t really matter.

Because, if nothing else, what it’s doing in the ramp-up to this year’s Grammy Awards actually is kind of cool. On Wednesday, February 9, just four days before the Awards themselves, the wing will honor Fort Worth’s Own T Bone Burnett, himself a 10-time Grammy winner, and again a nominee this year, for “his commitment to excellence and ongoing support for the art and craft of recorded music.” And a couple of his good pals, Leon Russell and Elton John, will be presiding over the festivities.

Just another cool notch on Burnett’s well-decorated bedpost. Check the press release after the jump.

  • The creation of
best practices guidelines: “Recommendations For Delivery Of Recorded Music
    Projects, “Recommendations For Surround Sound
Production,” and “Digital Audio Workstation Guidelines For Music

  • Partnership with
leading data management firm BMS/Chace and the Library of Congress to develop

Leading
the charge for The Recording Academy’s advocacy participation in the matter
of wireless microphones and White Spaces, organizing letter-writing and phone
campaigns and lobbying in Washington, D.C. A key victory was achieved for
musicians, singers and sound engineers with the FCC’s order
reserving two channels in every market for wireless microphones and affording
microphone users further protection through registration in a database. Other
advocacy issues the P&E Wing has supported
include copyright enforcement and performance royalties for artists, musicians,
and record producers.

Working
in partnership with The Recording Academy’s 12 regional Chapters, more than 35
events are produced annually that focus on professional development and
education for producers and engineers.
