Paced by first-round rookies Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins, the Cowboys somehow survived.

Just when it looked like the Eagles would take this to the wire, the Cowboys’ defense came up with four consecutive stellar plays and Dallas hangs on for an exhilarating win that takes it to 2-0.

After Jay Ratliff’s facemask penalty took Philly to midfield, Greg Ellis sacked Donovan McNabb on first down. On second down Pacman Jones blanketed receiver Hank Baskett for an incompletion. On third, rookie corner Mike Jenkins stayed with DeSean Jackson, forcing McNabb to scramble and finally be sacked by DeMarcus Ware.

And on fourth down and 17, Jenkins again stayed at home in his spot on the right corner in Dallas’ dime alignment, forcing Brian Westbrook out of bounds after Philly tried the ol’ hook and ladder.

Said Cowboys’ head coach Wade Phillips, “What a game. What a win.”

Whew.

And wow. — Richie Whitt
