To keep your life fresh and stimulated ask yourself this question: When’s the last time I did something for the first time?

My answer: Today.

Can’t recall ever going to a day/night football/baseball doubleheader where I could literally walk between sites. But that’s the case today as the Dallas Cowboys hold an open practice at 4:30 p.m. in Cowboys Stadium, followed by Rangers-Yankees at 7:05 just down Randol Mill Road at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The Cowboys will go through the motions, break a sweat, try not to get any more tight ends hurt and sign some autographs during its Silver and Blue Debut.

For the Rangers, the production is a tad more important

Texas – which now has an eight-game lead in the American League West thanks to Oakland’s loss last night to lowly Seattle – plays its next eight games against the beasts of the East: the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays.

They’re 6-7 against those teams this year. Going 4-4 or better during this gauntlet could go a long way toward securing the Rangers’ first playoff berth this millennium.

Surprisingly there are 4,000 tickets left for tonight’s game. The Cowboys’ practice, of course, is free (parking is $10).
