One-hit wonder? Or another lethal weapon in the Stars’ arsenal? Stay tuned.

While America’s “hockey moms” were likely learning about Joe the Plumber last night, Dallas’ hockey fans were introduced to Fabian Brunnstrom.

How’s this for a lid-lifter? In his first NHL game, the Swedish winger scored three goals in leading the Stars to their first victory of the season.

He became only the third player in hockey history to record a hat trick in his first game, which, to me, sets his bar unreasonably high the rest of the season. Eh?

Thanks to Pacman Jones, I haven’t been to a Stars’ practice or watched a game yet this season. But if Brunnstrom, a free agent, makes more noise than ballyhooed newcomer Sean Avery, the Stars will have a legit chance at again playing deep into the spring. – Richie Whitt
